OREM, UT.
(NBC) -- A 70-year-old Utah woman is now free after being arrested for
not watering her lawn and refusing to give a police officer her name.
When
Betty Perry heard a knock at her door and saw a police officer standing
outside, she never imagined she would end up in jail, but that's what
happened when the officer tried enforcing Orem, Utah's nuisance
ordinance against neglected yards.
"I didn't want to tell him
anything until I talked to a lawyer or my son. I wanted to see what
he'd tell me to do. I've never had any experience before with the law
ever in my life," said Perry
As the enforcement officer started
writing her a ticket, she tried going back in her house. That's when
the officer tried to handcuff her for refusing to give her name and
resisting the ticket.
She tripped on the steps, scraping up her nose and elbows, leaving on her door, her porch and her clothes.
Perry was handcuffed, fingerprinted and put in a jail cell, where she sat for more than an hour.
When police brass learned what happened, she was immediately released.
"Every
officer in his career has situations they find themselves getting into,
at the end of it they scratch their head and say 'Gosh, how did this
happen?' Today I think was one of those days. Clearly there were some
other options available," said Orem Police Lieutenant Doug Edwards.
Perry says she is now scared of the police.
"Don't
ever say no when the police tell you do to something. You better do
what they tell you no matter what. Even if you don't have anybody to
help you, you've got to do what they tell you or they will hurt you."
The arresting officer was sent home for the day and placed on paid administrative leave.
Police are not pressing any charges against Perry for either neglecting her yard or resisting the ticket.
Last night I saw one of the first showing of Transformers in California,
8:00 PM July 2nd, the night before
the major release across the main theater sytem in the United
States. I went into the movie with very high
expectation mainly because of some good movies put out by not only Michael
Bay, but also Steven Spielberg. I
can happily say that the majority of these expectations were met.
Warning: Some
Spoilers will be in my Review. Choose if you want to read on past the trailer:

Transformers: Review Billy Manson
I honestly
enjoyed the film, it wasn’t overly dramatic or so laid back it was stupid. The
action and effects were absolutely stunning which can be shown by MichaelBay’s other works. (Armageddon,
The Island, Bad Boys II), some of the early actions seemed a bit under
developed. after like the 4th tank getting totally messed up by the deception’s
weaponry there didn’t seem to be much of a point to the shot; spectacular
nonetheless. The Acting was well deserved for each of the parts:
Sam Witwicky: Played by Shia LaBeouf (Disturbia, Even Stevens, Holes) was case excellently for his role as a nerdy and somewhat insecure but likeable kid. Shia has definatly transformed (pun intended) from his type-cast role of his teen years. Sam is definatly a fun loving kid who has a crush on the girl to get at school, Mikaela Banes (played by Megan Fox, Hope & Faith, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen) As Sam's true person come out in his willingness to risk his own neck, she starts chaning.
The Autobots: All
the Autobots were excellently cast for their personalities, I thought it was
absolutely hilarious how they learned to speak the native languages of earth.
(Watch the movie to find out) Bumblebee was the most unique of the bunch
because has voice-box was damaged in battle, he speaks only by shifting through
the radio UHF channels to express his mood.
Optimus Prime: The
leader of the Autobots was played by the original voice of Optimus Prime Peter
Cullen. (Also the voice of Eeyore from Winnie The Pooh.) Optimus Prime is defiantly
better at close range hand to hand combat (Do they have hands?). Within a few
blows he takes out 2-3 smaller Decepticons proving his power. They paid
incredible detail to making the transformations very smooth and coherent. Every
time you see any of them transform I was wowed as to how cool it was.
Megatron: Defiantly was the most power, of all the forces
in this movie. Every shot and every frame you could see his power. Even his
voice was incredibly menacing Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith, V, Elrond) lends his
voice to this powerhouse.
Pros: - I loved the creativeness presented in the introduction to
Sector Seven. - How the Allspark was hidden, - The incorporation of pop-culture items of the past (I.E.
Furby, DDR, Mountain Dew). - - Realistic Explosions, not obviously fake but not
so refined they looked fake - Realistic Collateral damage from things like footsteps,
explosions, etc. - The scene of Sam trying to hide the Autobots (>.<) - Corniness
carried from the TV Show
Cons: - Weak – Yet Strong: One second they could pull roofs off
building, the next they could be subdued by 2 helicopters with grappling hooks. - Truncated Swearing: Say the whole word, or don’t say it at
all (Gripe about McClaine’s line in Die Hard 4.) - No real background on The Autobots or Allspark (Prequel
Anyone?) - Unrealistic f-20 crashes into buildings - They tracked bogeys from the operation base, why couldn’t
they see Huge Asteroids with the Autobots coming down?
We just had our first Major Exam this morning in Biol 10L, I am in fact I'm in the library of Woodland Community College typing this up right now during our freaking 2 hour break. The said test was worth 100 Points, it took me about maybe 30 Minutes. Easy? Yes. Stupid? Yes. Mediocre at best? You betcha. I studied 'til late last night and most of yesterday (Good thing was, it gave me an excuse to ditch chores and watch the prestige).
